I never post on Livejournal, but if anyone reads this and has a clue what book this is, I'd appreciate a comment.

Years ago I signed out a book from the library. I can’t remember the
name of it, nor the author, or any sort of publishing information. I
got a few chapters into the book but never finished it because I signed
out too many books to read within the two week span. It’s been almost a
decade since I signed the book out and for the past few years it’s
been stuck in my mind. I remember the books I signed out with it, Kissing Doorknobs,
and a book about Hiroshima, but I’m probably years too late to go to
the library and ask if they have it on file. So anyone who’s following
my Tumblr, PLEASE, if you have any idea what this book is or might be, let me know. I’m dying to read this book in it’s entirety.

Here are the details from the book that I remember:

  1. The book was about a family of four. Mother, father, son,
daughter. The father was a writer, possibly some kind of political
    activist.
  2. The government came and took the entire family away because of something the father wrote.
  3. The family was taken to some kind of housing project. They lived in domes in the desert.
  4. Their meals came pre-packaged.
  5. They could only have a 5 minute shower each day and were allotted one 10 minute shower at the end of the week.
  6. When they left their domes they had to wear special orange suits that tethered to their building.
  7. The son went for a walk without the tether and didn’t come back.
  8. The daughter went to go find him. She didn’t wear her tether either.
There was some sort of sandstorm. After walking so far she hit some
kind of force field and was knocked out.

That’s as far as I got. If you have any idea what this book is,
even if it doesn’t match all the points, send me a message. I’m hoping
this gets at least one reblog so more people will see it.

Does anyone know what this book is?
